Update Now: Active iOS and iPadOS Zero-Day Exploitation

Authors list

It’s important to always keep your devices up to date. In this case, Apple identified a critical vulnerability in how iOS and iPadOS handles images. While this seems minor, this fundamental function occurs nearly constantly when a user browses the internet, views photos, and receives multimedia messages.

The flaw allows an attacker to trigger memory corruption, which can lead to unauthorized access to a device. Apple confirmed that this vulnerability is being exploited in the wild and released a patch on August 20th, 2025.

All users of iOS and iPadOS devices are encouraged to check their OS version and update to version 18.6.2 if they have an older version.

To turn on automatic updates or run a manual update, visit Apple Support’s guide. While the specific guide is for the iPhone, the steps are the same for the iPad.
